Drew Kopf as Golfer:

Golf - I play infrequently but while I was living in Poughkeepsie, I had the Golf Pro at the College Hill Golf Course make a custom set of golf clubs for me, figuring that I was probably not going to get any taller. I still play with those clubs and, since they seem to still fit just right, I can never blame the reults of my efforts on my clubs.

I have one "rule", if you want to call it a rule, if you would like to play golf together with me: "No showing off". (That was my father's phrase that he would use when we played together and were paired up with people we didn't know. I still think it's a good ice breaker at the start of a round of golf like that when even good players can be expectatious if not down right nervous).

This year, in 2006, I participated in the American Kidney Fund Northeast Region Golf Classic, which was held at the Hamlet Golf and Country Club in Commack, NY on Monday, August 7th. With that as a motivator, I asked some friends to join me in the event and was glad to have a full foursome at the event. To get read for the golf itsel, I cobbled together what I am referring to as The POTUS-presumptuous’ Unorthodox Tether-free Tumler Society, which is made up of Drew Kopf and a few of my friends and their freinds, when we need substitutes, who have a great time playing the great game of golf together. Rounds are initially being played at the Nassau County Christopher Morley Park in Port Washington, NY, which has a very nice executive 9-hole golf course.

Other golf outings are scheduled as time permits and with the idea of experiencing the beauty of the many courses available to us in the United States. These golf outings can be reviewed by clicking:

Nice weather after very stormy Tuesday. .
Round __: Sunken Meadow - Green Tuesday, July 10, 2018 Highlights: Earlier than usual start due to shceduled grounds work. Drew, in his ne car left late, slow trip and missed the exit onto Sunken Meadow Parkeay, missed the first two holes. Sores were never quite right by the end of the round. But, the golf was still fun.
Round __: Sunken Meadow - Blue Tuesday, June 26, 2018 Highlights: Beautiful moring. We were a foursome; Drew, Ron, Barry and Hank until mid way in the round Keith, who was palying as a single after his tow young playing partners left early to attend a job interview. The same "Kevin" who played with us the week prior.
Round __: Sunken Meadow - Green Tuesday, June 19, 2018 Highlights: Beautiful moring. OK. It was a little warm but with enough of a cloud cover that it was never to harsh. We were three and they teamed us up with Kevin" from Melville, whose wife belongs to the Mid-Island Y JCC. He's 80 and he and Drew were paired up at Sunken Meadow before. Round __: Northport Golf Club - Northport Post 694 at VA Hospital Tuesday, June 5, 2018 Highlights: Finally, the weather was great. No rain expected until afternoon, and that is whjat happened. It was Hank, Barry, Ron and Drew. Hank and Drew walked while Barry and Ron took a cart.
Round __: Northport Golf Club - Northport Post 694 at VA Hospital Thursday, May 31, 2018 Highlights: Overcast and threatening rain, but it didn't rain until later in the day. We had zero wait time and got out at 7:20 AM with absolutely nobody in sight for at least 3 holes into our round. Course is in good shape and well cared for. Had not played here in a several years. Drew chipped one in from the fringe on the second hole for his one highligh film clip. Ron had a Birdie on the 8th for his big thrill of the day and a nice round of 41 and 6 Mulligans. Let's leave out Mulligams and just take the penalties and stick to the rules. Mulligans interupt the flow of the game for everone else waste time to boot. Barry his long put for a Par on the 9th with his dad's putter, which Barry had rewipped into shape. Nice memories. Don was hitting the ball and had a nice Par on the 5th. Breakfast at Professor's in Kingspark was very good. We may be going back to Northport from time-to-time.
Round __: Sunken Meadow State Park - Red Thursday, May 10, 2018 Highlights: Weather was over cast and sunny off and on towards end of the 9 hole round, whuch started around 7:30 AM. They are doing a great deal of work on the course but, for the most part, the course was in good shape. It was the first time back for Drew, Ron is also just back from surgery, Ken played on the weekend for his first time since last season and Hank is also back for the first time and has a charity event on Monday. The game moved right along, which is always nice.
Round 82: Sunken Meadow State Park - Red Thursday, October 7, 2010

Highlights: Weather played a part in todays truncated round but perhaps a little more than the weather as well. We were shy Don again die to his back. They teamed us up with a guy named John from Plainview who had a way of playing his own game by walking out in front ot guys who were away. Talk about dangerous. But, we were rushed onto the course at 8 am at Sunken Meadow after first having attempted getting on the Blue at Bethpage. There were two tourneys going on and the Blue start time was 8:30. Well, it would have been better to have waited cause we might have finished the round there. Feeling rushed when golf is not your native language makes things rough at best. Everyone, except for Drew, hit way off to the right of the first tee. It got worse for them from there. So much so that Ken announced that he would get some coffee and wait for us to finish the round while he read the book he had brought. Hmm. We played three more holes and it rained lightly for that period of time. The results for Hank and John were frustrating and John walked off at the end of the fourth hole and Hank and Drew looked at each other and decided that if it wasn't fun they would leave, which they did. Drew had been pretty much on his game with a double bogie on 1 and 2 a bogie on 3 and 4 and some nice putts holed. The rain was brief and really not that difficult to play though, but it was declared that the season for the POTUS golf was officially at an end because the frustration of not mastering the game for most of the guys was wearing on them too greatly. Next season’s plans were left open with no body committing to play or not to play as we have been for the last few years; at least not as a group.

Round 81: Sunken Meadow State Park - Blue Thursday, September 23, 2010 Highlights: Weather was great. The course was in pretty good shape. Ken could not play due to a last minute phone meeting at 10:15 AM. Hank was getting off the tee with great consistency and nice distance. His irons and putter were not as dependable though but he was able to lower his overall score by a stroke over last week's round, which was a plus. Don had his share of victories with a bogie on 1 and a Par on 3, but he lost control on 4, 8 and 9, which elevated his total to 55 for the day. Drew retired the 3 wood he had been using in favor of one that matches the Big Bertha 5 and 7 woods he had picked up at a yard sale last summer and has been using with some success. There were immediate dividends when he used it on his second shot on Hole 1 landing on the green a few feet from the pin. He missed the birdie putt by a few inches and settled for Par. He parred the 3rd again missing the first putt by about a foot. His new 3 wood came in to play again on the 9th when he hit his second shot between two trees of some girth advancing the ball significantly to set up for a pitch onto the green and eventually three putts for a double bogie 6. The rest of the round was mostly double bogies, a triple bogie and one bogie for a total of 50, which helped him continue his trend of lowering his round totals.
Round 81: Sunken Meadow State Park - Red Thursday, September 16, 2010 Highlights: Beautiful morning again. We went back to Sunken Meadow even though our outing at the nearby Oyster Bay was on some pretty luch surroundings, but the idea of paying for 18 and only playing 9 was pretty darn off putting. We got off in record tiome again. Just about waked on as we arrived. Ken an Don were having a tough go of it even though they both had some terrific shots. Hank hit a 60 and seemed pleased with his results. When he hit the entire ball, it goes great. Whern he gets only part of it is when he gets irratic results. Hmm. Drew started off with a bogie 5 and was on the fringe of the par 4 second hole in 2. His chip was near perfect and ened up to the left of the hole about a half a ball width from going in for what would have been a birdie. He tapeped in for par and went on the third hole and again chiopped close, about 5 feet away, and sunk it for a second par. Two more bogies and only one hole, the par 5 7th, that completely got away from him, gave him a pleasing round of 51.
Round 80: Town of Oyster bay Town Golf Course Thursday, September 2, 2010 Highlights: Beautiful morning again.
Round 79: Sunken Meadow State Park - Green Thursday, August 26, 2010 Highlights: Beautiful morning again.
Round 78: Sunken Meadow State Park - Red Thursday, August 19, 2010 Highlights: Beautiful morning.
Round 77: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, August 11, 2010 Highlights: We opted for Dix Hills Park Golf Course since Don's foot is still ailing but he wanted to walk, which would be easier for him than one of the longer course we have been playing. What we found were greens that were in horrible shape, which made the round some what less than enjoyable. The future of the s=course though looks bright since there is a lot of construction and tree removal and new tee boxes being made, which should be nice when its all done. Hank and Ken were kind of slugging it out on the high end of the score card having hit 54 and 56 respectively, and Drew and Don were going at it in the next notch down. Each of them made two pars; Drew on the 4th and 8th and Don on the 6th and 8th. They were a stroke apart going into the 9th with Drew being able to maintain his narrow margin by matching Don stroke for stroke on the 9th for a 43 to Don's 44.
Round 76: Sunken Meadow State Park - Red Thursday, July 22, 2010 Highlights: Don was back but had to ride to give his healing foot a chance to continue it healing ways. He was joined by Steve, who has played with us in the past and who brought his booming drive along to show Ken how impressive it really can be. Hank was visiting grand kids. We had a reserved time of 8 AM on the Red at Sunken Meadow, which worked out well. The weather was warm but the breeze off the Long Island Sound kept us fresh; at least some what. By the end of the 9 holes everyone was pretty well cooked. Don worked on his basics and sparks of brilliance were evident while he worked on putting good shots togeter to make good holes. His best was a bogie on the eighth. His round total was 61. Ken also had a bogie on the thrird and it was his first time ever hitting a green in one shot. Cool. His 67 for the moring was not reflective of the really good hits he had along the way. Steve had a bogie on the second and on the eigth but a series of blow ups gave him a total of 58. Drew kept up his course management ways. His best holes of the day were bogies on the second and third. His round total of 54 was the low score of the day.
Round 75: Sunken Meadow State Park - Green Thurssday, July 1, 2010 Highlights: Don is still sidelined but should be back in action next week. Having played twice in last few outings on the Sunken Meadow Blue Course, we now were offered a chance to play on the Green Course and to see how it compares. It is safe to say that as a group we got to see parts of the Green course that are very rarely seen by most players. There were the occasional bright moments, such as Ken's par on hole 8, which caused him to his little victory dance, but for the most part, balls were flying every where, hitting all sorts of trees and scooting over and around holes on putting greens with excruciating regularity. There were any number of Mulligans, do-overs and lost balls that needed to be replaced all of which tuckered everyone out and with all the extra trudging around searching for balls and going from one side of the rough to the other with only infrequent stops on actual fairways, the group went to breakfast at the Blue Angel pretty much pooped. Ken ended up with a 65, which was 9 strokes better than his last outing on the Blue. Hank had a 65, which was about as he did on the Blue last week. Mike, who was at last experimenting with the woods in his bag, tallied a 78. Drew had a couple of bogies, and few hole that cost him a bunch, but he was able to keep within two strokes of his last outing with an even 60 for the day.
Round 74: Sunken Meadow State Park - Blue Thurssday, June 17, 2010 Highlights: Don is still recuperating from his surgery. Mike had office stuff at the last minute, so Hank, Ken and Drew returned to the Sunken Meadow Blue to see how they would do on this longer and much more challenging course. It is a beautiful setting and offers what everyone seems to what at this juncture in the way of a golf experience. At the end of the round it was noted that if Hanks drives could have been combined with Ken's putting, it would have been an unbelievable score card. Ken sank four or five longer than moderate puts and short ones when in with regularity. Hank had several very nice starts with drives that soared like eagles and some second shots that were similarly exciting. But, the other parts of their respective games lofted their scores to 64 for Hank and 74 for Ken. Drew flubbed his first shot but salvaged bogie on hole 1. He blew up with a 10 on the second but calmed down and hit bogie on the third hole and alternated between double and triple bogie for the remainder of the round for a 58 total, which is four strokes better than his effort the week before.
Round 73: Sunken Meadow State Park - Blue Thurssday, June 10, 2010 Highlights: Let the games begin. Hank had been urging us to play a longer course in preparation for the two golf outing he and Drew will be playing in later this year; the American Kidney Fund on August 2, and the one in favor of the Jewish Children's Museum in July. Everything had worked against their doing so until now. The group was able to get on at 8:09 AM and the round took a full 3 hours to play; just 9 holes. Parts of the course were visited that are very rarely seen by anyone. It was a humbling round for the length was so much longer that what we were used to and the layout is, at once beautiful and challenging. The scores do not reflect the goodly number of good shots made by every one at one pint or another. They do show the need for consistency across the board. Ken, Drew and Hank each chalked up a bogie, which were the best single-hole scores of the day. Hank and Drew had a couple of double bogies to mollify thins a little. Then, it was just a matter of how much each man let the holes dominate that made the scores soar to what ever heights they did. Hank and Ken tied at 74, Mike, in for Don, who was still healing his heel, hit 78 and Drew kept things down to 62.
Round 72: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thurssday, May 27, 2010 Highlights: It was Drew, Hank Ken and Mike, who was substituting for Don, whose operation was a success but wh is still on the mend. Mike has not lost anything since last year and rolled in nice round of 45. Ken came alive with a neat little par on the 6th hole but was struggling the rest of the way ending with a 54, which is still an improvement from this time last season. Hank had some moments he will not forget on both sides of the ledger; and ended wigth a 50 and looking forward to getting onto some courses with par five holes in preparation for the two charity rounds he'll be playing in this Summer. Drew warmed up slowly with with boggie and tripple boggies on 1 and 2. But he kept focus throught the next six holes posting three pars and three boggies. He had 35 going into the 9th but lost focus again and finished with a 42. More good than bad, but a lesson in the need to make each shot count; not to rush and to stay focused.
Round 71: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thurssday, May 20, 2010 Highlights: Hank and Drew were joined by Al who changed his grip to ease some finger discomfort hed had been experiencing and has been driving better ever since. Hank shot the same 54 as the week before with some rifling drives and some crisp and timely saving shots that got him out of hot water a few times. Al proved what he had said about his game having improverd by zero putting the first hole for a par and repeating par, but not by chipping in this time, on the 5th hole. He stayed even with Drew through the 8th but was admittedly tired as the 9th began. He took his only Mulligan at the tee and went 2 over par by the time he tapped in the last putt and a total of 42. Drew matched Al's two pars with one on the 2nd and trhen when it was needed most on the 9th foir an even 40 for the morning. The course is being "rebuilt" and some of the greens were drenched in sand that made putting near impossible. But, they were the same greens for all so it worked.
Round 70: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thurssday, May 13, 2010 Highlights: Hank and Drew hit some pretty terrific shots. But, those shots were sandwiched in between some less than terrific shot. Still, it ended about like the week prior with Hank at 54 and Drew at 43.
Round 69: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thurssday, April 29, 2010 Highlights: Hank and Drew kept the efforts to dust off the of the old golf game that has been sitting around waiting for the nice weather to return. But Ken was busy elsewhere and Don needed to be available for his wife Merna, who was hospitalized but who is doing better now. Hank was having a tough round until he hit a nifty shot on the 3rd and ended up getting par, which was important since he stayed right around double bogie from then on except for a tough finishing hole that give him a total of 57 for his first day back. Drew was right around bogie golf all day except for a double bogie on 2 and a complete blow out quadruple bogie on 9. But his par on 5 and a nice as can be birdie on the 8th gave him a round of 41 for his second effort of the season.
Round 68: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thurssday, April 22, 2010 Highlights: The winter would not let go of its powerful hold on our area, which kept delaying the start of your golf outings. But, with great trepidation, we scheduled our first 2010 round for April 22 and everyone signed on. There was a late night cancellation the night before when Hank and Elaine learned of the eminent birth of their second grandchild, who indeed was born the next day7 at 12:15 PM. Don, Kenny and Drew played as a threesome with the first couple of holes being a little rough with just one bogie by Drew on the 1st. Then, bogies for all on the 3rd and 4th except for Drew, who gave back a stroke with a double bogie on the 4th. He won back that stroke by paring the 5th and hit bogie from then on until a double bogie on the 9th for a round of 44. Don hit a 51 and Ken hit a 54 with several nice shots by both of them keeping them from breaking their golf clubs over their knees. Congratulations to Hank and Elaine.

Round 48: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, May 21, 2009 Highlights:
Round 47: Sunken Meadow State Park - Blue Thursday, October 16, 2008 Highlights: Our foursome was reduced to a twosome with Don still feeling the ill effects of having been hit by a golf ball on the weekend and Ken off at a political function. Hand and Drew squeezed in what might be the final round of the season. It was damp and humid but an overall beautiful day. They moved right along with nobody behind them and ample sp[ace in front. Hand felt he had 8 really good strokes but over all struggled to stay out of the woods and to make his putter behave. Drew was mostly able to maintain his focus, had a pretty dependable driver, fairly accurate short irons and his putter was about 50-50 getting him three bogies and a total of 53 for the round.
Round 46: Northport Golf Course of American Legion Post 694 located at the Veterans Administration, Northport, NY Thursday, September 25, 2008 Highlights: We were surprised again by "unscheduled" maintenance at Dix Hills and opted for the VAGC in Northport. It is a little out of the way, but proved to be a challenging, well kept and enjoyable course for us to play. The greens, which are the old fashions postage stamp sized ones, had been aerated and sanded, which made them some what uneven and very fast making even the most lofted of shots have a tendency to roll rather than to stick. Though, after a few holes, most of us were dealing with that situation. It was a kind of two tier battle with Ken and Hank going back and forth on a hole-by-hole basis and Ken ending with a 64 and Hank with a 68. Both Ken and Hank were getting good shots off and then either missing almost completely or topping the ball. Solving that will surely make a huge difference in both their games. Don and Drew were with in one stroke of each other or tied each other on every single hole. Don led by 1 through the 4th, when Drew tied him on the 5th with a bogie. Don pulled ahead on the 7th with the only Par of the round for the foursome. But, Drew bogied the last two holes to draw even and nose Don out by one stroke on the beautiful if frustrating Par 3 finishing hole. Drew was carrying a new 6 iron, which was loaded with a graphite shaft as an experiment to see whether he might not want to have his clubs upgraded to graphite. He used that club on several occasions in the round and it seemed to serve him well.
Round 45: Sunken Meadow State Park - Green Course Thursday, September 18, 2008 Highlights: We opted for a bigger challenge while the Dix Hills Course was closed for maintenance. The foursome traveled out to Sunken Meadow where we played the Green course, which is the more highly rated of the three courses in the park. Ken was introduced to the rigors of a course with Par 5s in the circuit and he could see the increase in the requirements both in stamina and in consistency. He had several bright moments which included a Bogie on the 1st and a Par on the 8th for a round of 74. It is a different game on these longer more topographically interesting courses. Hank also parred the 8th hole and finished with a 73. Don Bogied the 8th but Parred the 9th, which gave him a round of 59 and four better than Drew, who parred the 8th hole but other wise was having a tough time.
Round 44: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, September 11, 2008 Highlights:The good forward moving strides by Ken and by Hank over the recent rounds continued with Ken hitting a Bogie on the 3rd, a Par on the 4th and another Bogie on the 5th for a total of 49. Hank Bogied the 8th but kept his game much more under control than earlier in the season for a round of 52 and a feeling of progress. Drew had some moments of control as exemplified by his par on the 4th, but he was only able to escape with a total of 50 giving Ken a chance to be out in front except for Don, who was not at his best but who still Bogied the first 3 holes as well as the 5th and 6th holes and Parred the 7th and 8th holes for a total of 42 for the day.
Round 43: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, September 4, 2008 Highlights: The foursome played a very tight round for the first time. We saw the flourishing of the investments in new clubs by Hanks 46 for the round, which tied Drew's total. Drew had started out Par. Bogie, Par, Bogie but the game got away from him to where breakfast could not come to soon. Ken's back was back and allowed him to swing freely and got him a Par on the 8th hole and a Bogie on the 9th. Don hit an 8 on the 1st but gained control slowly to bag 5 Bogies and two Pars the rest of the way for a respectable 42 for the morning.
Round 42: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, August 28, 2008 Highlights: Don was absolutely on perhaps as he never was before. While Hank contested against Drew playing him to a 48 stroke to Drew's 43 stroke round, and while Kenny tried to keep his bad back from getting any worse and hobbled around to a 61 stroke total, Don pared the 1st and the 6th holes and sunk a birdie put on the par three 7th hole. He had 5 bogies and only double bogied the 9th hole for a blazing total of 38 for the day.
Round 41: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, August 21, 2008 Highlights: The round was fiercely contested on several levels since the advent of Hank and his new clubs last week when he stepped into a leadership role last week. The first hole belonged to Drew with a straight if not so long a drive that set up his 24 degree wood, which landed on but rolled through the green. He chipped and ran the ball on with a 7 and two-putted for 5. Don came back to gain back the stroke on the 2nd and to go ahead by one on the 3rd. Hank and Ken were hanging in there just a few strokes off the pace. Don and Drew parred the 4th. Don picked up another stroke on the 5th but gave it back when Drew parred the 6th. They both pared the 7th and Drew tied it up with a bogie on the 8th. But, he could not take the pressure and muffed his drive and hit the follow up shot into the woods. He got back on track but finished with an 8. Don made sure not to be short of the green on his 2nd hit and went over, but set himself up for a shot at par and settled for a bogie and a total of 41 to beat Drew by 3 strokes. Ken totaled a 56 just 3 behind Hanks 53.
Round 40: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, August 14, 2008 Highlights: Even a severely injured finger that kept him from playing basketball the day before did not interrupt Hank's rapid-fire progress towards golf's elite shooters. Par, Bogie, Bogie, Bogie, Par Trippple Bogie, Par is how it went for him through the 7th hole. Balls were flying in the air and landing on the green with little or no detours into the woods or even into the deep rough. Putts were rimming the cup or just dropping in like they new just what was expected of them. If this isn't the prelude to the launching of a sports page in Hank’s newspaper, we will be surprised. We left out the 8th and 9th holes because the real Hank returned to finish out the round: Double bogie 6; not so terrible but then followed by a quadruple bogie 8; that was a bit of a downer, for a personal best so far of 44. But, chalk it up for a victory since Drew trailed by one at the end of the round with a 45, Don trailed by 4 with a 48 and Ken; well, Ken had to stop playing when his back began to tighten, but let's just say Hank beat everybody and that's that. Nice game Hank. Don's round can be summed up as moments of greatness, like his two pars, punctuated by; well, not-so-greatness". Drew's round was similarly spotty; just his punctuation was a little better than Don’s; by three strokes any way. The questions that everyone is asking, including Hank, are: Was it Hank's new clubs? Was it Hank’s hurt finger? And, who's having fun now?
Round 39: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, August 7, 2008 Highlights: The American Kidney Fund Outing held just three days earlier on Monday and the extra round of 9 holes played by Hank and Drew at the Sunken Meadow State Park's Blue course on Saturday, August 3rd, must have steeled Drew to stay the course to the very end this round and must have warmed Hank up to further his attack on breaking 50. Hank bogied the 3rd and parred the 7th and had some very nice long and straight drives leading to his total of 51 for the day. Ken brought some real regularity to his stokes today with a bogie on 7, a string of double bogies on 2, 3, 4, and 6 and then a par on the 8th hole. He was a shoe in for breaking 50 going into the 9th and surely knew it when he looked at the aggregate score on his bag score minder device. That may have been the thing that shook him up. He did what he could to stay calm but the hole got longer and smaller at the same time taking 8 strokes for him to hole the ball for a round total of 50. Don had a bitter beginning with an 8 on the 1st and a 6 on the 2nd giving Drew a 2 stroke lead. But, he reigned himself in by paring the 3rd to catch Drew and paring the 4th to pull ahead by one stroke. Drew was able to pull even with Don with a bogie on the 6th. Stayed even through the 7th and pulled ahead with a par on the 8th after missing Eagle with a fairway hit using his 24 degree rescue club. They both hit bogie on the 9th giving Don a 45 and Drew a 44; the reverse of their round of July 31st.
Round 38: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, July 31, 2008 Highlights: Are these guys getting better or what? Ken breaks 50 with a round of 49. Hank zeros in on breaking 50 with a 53. Don registered pars on the 2nd, and then down the stretch, on the 7th and 8th to pull within one of Drew, who had a par on the 1st and the 4th with bogies on the 3rd, 6th and 7th. Ken made par on the 4th and again on the 8th to bring about that 49. Hank made par at the 5th hole and a bogie on the 8th, which added up to more encouragement about his new clubs. Drew must have forgotten the messages of the book The Inner Game of Golf when Don pointed out that unless he, Drew, blew it completely on the 9th, he would surely win. Drew blew up with an 8 to finish with 45 strokes, which was one stroke more than Don’s come-back 44.
Round 37: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, July 17, 2008 Highlights: Ken could not join us again so we played as a three-some. Hank to a few holes to get off the double bogie train when he bogied the 4th. But he was off in to the stratosphere again until the par 4 eight hole, when he hit a might drive to the mouth of the green and was on in one and down in two for par. He went back to double bogie land for the 9th for a total of 51.Don and were in one of their battles again with a mutually rough start on 1 and 2 and then Drew parred the 3rd bogied the 4th, 5th and 6th and parred the 7th and 8th, while Don bogied the 3rd parred the 5th and 8th to where it would take and ace from him and a 9 from Drew on the 9th for hit to catch Drew or so he said. Well, the seed was planted and Drew drove short missing the fairway to the left and hit his rescue club to just short of the green, then chipped over, chipped again and 3 putted for a 7. Don hit a blast to the left and the ace was not to happen, nor a duce, nor anything near them. He had his chance to close the gap but settled for a 6 and gave Drew a 5 stoke advantage at the end.
Round 36: Christopher Morley Golf Course Tuesday, July 8, 2008 Highlights: We were joined by Mike the friendly CPA, who was hitting in for Don, who was at a breakfast meeting of the Niptypooteepoptee, which is also a CPA related thing. It was a warm and fairly muggy morning and we opted for Christopher Morely Park Golf Course since at the Dix Hills Park Golf Course we would run into leagues. Here we stepped right on with no wait and never were pressured by the twosome behind us either. Hank was pleased to be back at Morley where he hit 4 bogies and really on ran into trouble on the 3rd and the 7th, which is that 300 yard par 4. His 490 felt much better too. Mike and Ken battled to a one stroke differential. Ken was getting better and better as the round advanced to where he boggied the 7th and then got two pars in a row on the 8th and 9th holes for a total of 45. Mike had his ups and downs. After a rough first hole, he boggied the 2nd, got par on the 3rd and boggied the 4th and 5th before he ran into some trouble on the next two holes. But he regained his composure and hit a bogie on the 8th and matched Ken's par on the 9th, which gave him a 44 for the morning’s 9. Drew took up where he left off last week at Dix Hills by sandwiching two bopgies on the 2nd and 3rd between two pars on the 1st and 4th holes. He lost it a little on the 5th but hobbled back with a bogie on the 6th. His efforts on the long 7th got him on in 3 but his putter went long and he ended the hole with a double bogie 6 and stayed erratic with another double bogie on the short8th hole. But, he came back to life on the somewhat truncated 9th hole with its tee box being closed for renovation, by driving to just short of the green on the right and then pitching to with in two feet of the flag and sinking his putt for a birdie 3 and a round total of 39. It may have an asterisk next to it in the official Christopher Morley record books, but it sure felt like a birdie and it sure felt like a 39 as well.
Round 35: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Tuesday, July 1, 2008 Highlights: It was clear now why we always just walked on without a wait on our regular Thursday games at Dix Hills Park Golf Course. There are leagues on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and we got on just in time to be ahead of them but not in time to be ahead of "Straight-down-the-middle-Bob" and his 91 year old playing partner Bill. But, things moved a long at a fair pace with only one or two holes where we had to wait. The weather was warm and muggy and the course was in fine shape with pretty deep rough. There were two battles going on in the score department though nobody was seemingly aware of just how close the scores were until the end of the round. Ken and Hank were with in one or two strokes of each other throughout the round with Ken's bogie on the first hole being matched by Hanks bogie on the 6th hole. They ended with Ken having gone around in 54 and Hank in 55. It is not saying that it would have made exciting TV Golf, but it was a close contest of sorts. Meanwhile, Don and Drew scoring well and keeping it close also. They both parred the first hole and the fourth hole with Don giving up 2 strokes with a tough experience on the second hole. Drew picked up 2 more strokes with a bogie on the 5th but dropped a stroke to Don when Don bogied the 6th. Drew lost another stroke on the 7th when even his saving sand shot, which landed him close enough to the pin to allow him to get a par 3, was overshadowed by Don's long putt for a birdie, which he read just right and sunk. Drew drove well on the 8th, pitched to just off the green and chipped close to set up a one putt for his fourth par of the round. Meanwhile, Don, who had hit left lost his ball and with the penalty, had to settle for a bogie 5. Drew had 32 strokes approaching the 9th to Don's 35. Don hit a mighty blast to the right. Drew's drive was more lackluster but down the center. His fairway wood brought him to inside a hundred yards from the pin. Don lost his way a bit but got up and down for a 5 on the 9th a total of 40 for the round. Drew's 3rd shot with a pitching wedge landed him on the back of the green about 20 feet from the hole. He changed his pattern of marking and waiting to putt in favor of putting out. The 20 remaining feet took him 3 strokes to complete and brought his total to 38 to edge out Don by just 2 strokes.
Round 34: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, June 26, 2008 Highlights: Rain was threatening and the morning was thick with humidity and heavy dew on the fairways and greens. But, the course was again in fine shape and we were virtually alone until late in the round of nine when golfers behind us caught up. So, there was really no pressure on us other than what we put upon ourselves. That does not mean there were not other factors that could affect our performance. Don was at a Mets game the night before and did not wake up until the 5th hole, which was the only one that he won out right with a boggie. He boggied the next hole as well, which helped him secure the second spot in the over all for the morning with a 52. Hank started out with a mighty blast right down the middle on hole 1 and had a few more nice drives with great distance and fair to good direction, but his irons and his putting were sporadic, which held him back from really breaking that 50 mark and left him in the third slot with a 53 just one out of second. Ken may have hit some kind of record by scoring 6 on 7 out of the 9 holes. It landed him 4th but he ended with a flourish by sinking a tremendous putt on the 9th hole to secure his 57 for the round. Drew was about as on as he has been this season. He parred the first and hit boggie on 2, 3, 6, 7 and 9 with double boggies on 4, 5 and 8. His drives were mostly playable with only one provisional ball needing to be hit but not used. His fairway woods made up for distance lost to not so very lengthy drives and his irons and putter were working well to yield for him a of 42.
Round 33: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, June 12, 2008 Highlights: The weather was beautiful. The course was in superb shape and we got right on with only Don unable to play. We were joined on the 3rd-whole by Matt W of Huntington, who proved to be a long ball hitter with a passion for the game transferred from his martial arts history and a military background. His bogie on holes 7 and 8 demonstrated how effective he can be when he strings good shots together. Hank broke 60 with a sparkling 55 total, which made him as happy as he could be. If he does get a new set of clubs more suited to his body type, he noted that he will loose his excuse for the scores he gets. So, he's not so sure he wants to do that. Ken had a bogie on hole-4 and hole-8 and hit one particularly nice putt that he would have loved to have on tape. His round of 54 was higher than it might have been were he able to take back a few rushed shots and ones where his focus was simply not on golf; but that's pretty much always the case with all of us. Drew hit a 51 for the morning's round getting off to a slow start on 1, 2 and 3. He was on in 2 on the 4th and sunk a mid-length putt for par, which helped him catch up. His bogie on 7 and 8 and double bogie on 9 kept him slightly ahead for the round and showed him that his new clubs, which he has now rounded out to include the 6 and the 8 irons, are making a difference as he starts to get used to them. He also switched from his mock Ping 3-wood to the 3-wood that matches the driver he acquired from an antique dealer in Oyster Bay last Summer when he got some miscellaneous clubs for his company's summer interns to use during the company’s day of golf. In the few times he called on it, it seemed to work fairly well.
Round 32: Sunken Meadow - Blue Thursday, June 5, 2008 Highlights: Threatening rain was not enough to keep us off the Dix Hills Park Golf Course. The fact that it was closed for maintenance when we arrived to play was enough. We drove further out to Sunken Meadow State Park and signed up to play the Blue Course and to Tee off at 8:09 AM. We had not been back to Sunken Meadow since October 16, 2006. The course had benefited from ample rain; being lush and green. The greens had been aerated in a less labor intensive way due to a reduction in the usual staffing numbers, so the plugs with sand which makes the green a horror show, were not what we found. The greens were beautiful and true, which seemed to help every body's putting and made for softer landing on the greens that allowed balls hit well to hold. On the 3rd Hole, after struggling mightily on 1 and 2, Don got on in one and rolled a 44 foot putt to the rim of the cup and let it roll around the edge until it circumnavigated the entire thing and, when it got back to where it had started the circuit, it gave up and dropped into the cup for a fabulous birdie 2. He bogied 6 and 9 to finish with a 54 for the round. Hank had a nice bogie on 6 as well and showed some great potential by making a few rifle shot drives that seemed to bore through he air and just go and go and some dramatic putts that seemed to indicate that reading greens is his specialty. It was agreed that his clubs do not fit him and that he would do well to get professionally fit for new clubs. When he gets them; look out and watch those scores plummet. Drew, who had been putting well on Saturday, continued to enjoy the good greens that helped him get in in 2 on 6 holes, in just 1 twice and had only one 3 putt situation and that one only missed by a fraction of an inch. He was driving fairly well with a bogie on 1, 3, 6, and 9 and really only blew up on holes 4 and 5. His new clubs have been delivering on their promise to give him the dependability he wanted. He ended the round with a 53 to edge Don by one stroke.
Round 31: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, May 15, 2008 Highlights: We were rained out last week and, except for Don, who was on business in Chicago, we were ready to take on Dix Hill Golf Course again with Mike filling with his brand new set of clubs. Some pretty wonderful things happened, not the least of which was Mike staring down a putt for Birdie on the 6th hole. He may have had to settle for a Par, but he did seem more confident as he strode off that green and on to the next Tee box. Until he reads this, he thinks he shot a 50, but the numbers keep adding up to 54. Still, not bad at all playing with new clubs on a new course and being bothered by all kinds of accounting questions from the rest of us. Ken had some "come back" shots as well. Those are the ones where after your hit them and they go so well that you say, "I'm coming back." His Bogie on the 7th hole was a prelude to his Par on the 8th, which would have made him the lead off man as we walked to the 9th were it not for a certain editor of a certain newspaper. Hank had labored throughout the round but on the 265 yard Par 4 8th-hole he had perhaps the singularly most exciting hole of the day. His drive landed short of the green by a few paces and with an uninterrupted view of the cup. His 2nd shot lagged a bit and died just a few feet away from the hole leaving him with an under 8 foot putt for Birdie, which he proceeded to sink just a nice as can be; like on TV. We understand that Hank is now considering starting a sports section in his paper. Drew seemed to tire at the end of the round after having had a couple of bogies and for the most part having demonstrated an even handed steady play. But, the stand out moment for him came early in the round. On the 248 yard Par 3 2nd hole after he had flubbed his third shot leaving him a 38 foot long putt from atop a ridge that feel away to the hole located mid way on the downward slope. Getting it close and leaving it above the hole would be difficult. His putt was firmly truck and rolled some 30 feet along the top of the ridge and just along its crest when it slowed to almost a dead stop and began to list, first slightly, and then lumbered off the ridge and moved down haltingly at first and then, picking up momentum it inched towards the cup and finally lingered for a brief time on the edge before tipping forward and disappearing with that wonderful clunking bouncing sound into the hole in the fashion of putts by Tiger Woods. It was a thing of beauty. Where are those cameras when we need them?
Round 30: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, May 1, 2008 Highlights: It was supposed to rain. Ken had a stiff neck. Drew was up late the night before and really tired. Hank had forgotten his golf shoes. Don was ready to play. And play he did. He parred the first hole, bogied the next two holes, parred the fourth-hole and bogied the fifth. He lost some ground on the remaining holes with bogie, bogie and two triple bogies for a round of 46. We walked away thinking it was a 42 again, but the recount showed the true tally. Ken worked his neck problems out and shop par on the 265 yard par 4 8th-hole getting on in 3 and in one put. His total was 52 again as last week. Hank had some brilliant strokes with great saving shot from the woods on hole-2 landing feet from the stick and putting for par. He settled for bogie but will remember that scrambling shot from the woods for a while. He shot par on the 5th and brought his total for 9 down by 4 strokes to 59 compared to last weeks round; progress. Drew had three bogies but was mostly struggling to recover from flubbed shots. His new clubs were working but his concentration was off; way off. He ended with 57.
Round 29: Dix Hills Park Golf Course Thursday, April 24, 2008 Highlights: We launched out foursome's 2008 season at a new venue, Dix Hills Park Golf Course, which is a delightful executive 9-hole course with some impressive hills, some longish holes that gave Don a chance to use his driver an extra time or two. They mow the woods, which is particularly helpful to most of us who spend a fair amount of time in there. Hank was nursing a wounded ankle so was working at a deficit with sneakers instead golf spikes. His surgery from mid-December is well on the mend, but we needed something to defend or explain his score of 63. Still, he did bogy the 5th hole and the 8th, which is what golf for us is often all about. Ken shot a 53 with a bogy on the 3rd and a string of double bogies at the end of the round showing that he has not lost his touch over the long winter break. Drew was working with his new Henry-Griffits clubs (the PW, 9, 7, 5 and a savior; no a rescue club which is like a 3 iron but is a wood). The seemed to fit just right because he was playing some pretty fair position golf and were it not for a flub or two and some overly strong putting he would have given Don an even stronger run for the lead. As it was, Drew shot a 44 with Pars on the 5th and the 8th holes and bogies on 4, 6 and 9. It was Don's big drive on the 8th that was the made him extra happy for having joined us on this day. He punched the ball 265 yards to a few short feet from the pin and was putting for eagle when reality stuck and he hit the ball with his fabulous new wooden hand carved putter and it rolled two inches to the left of the cup but stayed near enough for him to hole it for a birdie. Everyone seemed optimistic about the golf we had played and we are all looking forward to more of such encouraging rounds going forward. The weather was grand and the course was very nice and totally without the pressure of crowds.
Round 28: Christopher Morley Golf Course Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Highlights: The day was absolutely beautiful. High sky, cool breeze, warm sunshine and not a very big crowd of players. And now we know why. The course was being groomed for Fall and the first hole had been aerated to where we were in caked-on mud everywhere we went. We had to keep cleaning off our clubs and the golf balls to get any kind of predictable results. By the 2nd hole we were back to almost normal except for the greens, which had been plugged and were bumps as can be. Still, even after not having played since September 6th, we had not lost much; some balls maybe, but our scores were about as they had been. Don struggled but came away with a 44. He made the best drive of the day on the 300 yard 7th with a 260 yard poke that helped him get a bogie. Hank had the hard time with a 52 but now is certain he needs longer clubs and want some lessons; perhaps over the winter break. Ken had his moments and ended with a 52. Drew was working with his Henry-Griffits 5-Iron again and sees some hope for it and perhaps will be adding to the set. He drove the green and was in in 2 for par on the 4th. His second shot on the 8th was a pitching wedge that landed about one inch from the cup redeaming him from his poor tee shot and setting up his second par of the round. He hit a smooth fade around the "oh no you don't" tree and set up a bogie to end with a 43.
Round 27: Christopher Morley Golf Course Tuesday, September 6, 2007 Highlights: We played shorthandded with Don caught up in meetings and client appointments. The struggle continued for Ken and Hank, though there were a sufficient number of good shots by each that will bring them back again, though the next round's date is still to be scheduled. Drew had some controls in place and though got off to a slow sart in hole 1, his new Henry-Griffits 5-Iron helped hi land in birdie range on hole two, which he ended up two putting for par. His 5 bogies got him a total of 43.
Round 26: Christopher Morley Golf Course Tuesday, August 30, 2007 Highlights: Ken got a par on hole 6, the 152 yard par 3 and Drew chipped one in for par on the 143 yard par 3 number 2 hole. After those high points, we struggled. Hank had a couple of bogies and Don had three. But, as tough as it was, it was a nice round.
Round 25: Christopher Morley Golf Course Tuesday, August 30, 2007 Highlights: Ken got a par on hole 6, the 152 yard par 3 and Drew chipped one in for par on the 143 yard par 3 number 2 hole. After those high points, we struggled. Hank had a couple of bogies and Don had three. But, as tough as it was, it was a nice round.
Round 24: Christopher Morley Golf Course Thursday, August 23, 2007 Highlights: This was a very special round where Don and Drew introduced two neophyte golfers to the game. Playing with clubs courtesy of Norman G., who gave Jonathan K. an old set of Tommy Armour Clubs and Drew Kopf, who purchased a used set of clubs from a second hand shop for use by Matthew N. the foursome made it around the Christopher Morley nine hole layout in what might be termed a teaching round. The "dos and don'ts" of golf were introduced to help both young men move safely around the course while keeping the gave going so the normal flow of the process continues as those infront and behind us would expect it to. Both Matt and Jon hade their share of great shots, so common to beinners in any thing and also a number of what could be called "learning moments" when balls went all over the place or went untouched; which is called a wiff and would normally count as a stroke. We did not record the strokes of the teens that morning, but as we go forward, we do intend to. Everyone had a swell time and we marked the event by breakfasting together at the Blue Angel Diner. Everyone was great a breakfast.
Round 23: Christopher Morley Golf Course Tuesday, August 14, 2007 Highlights: Hank is back from vacation in Argentina. He didn't even miss a round with us as we were rained out and otherwise lost players due to leaky sky lights, rearranged work scheules and fatigue from the American Kidney Fund Golf Outing, in which Don and Drew participated on the 6th of August. Today's round got Hank a Par 3 on the 4th Hole along with three bogies on the 1st, 2nd and 8th for a solid 50. Ken played mostly bogie golf exhibiting newly acquired controls that have him putting at pars with great regularity. Don got off his attraction to hills as seen on the AKF Golf Outing and scored pars on the 5th and 7th holes. The 7th saw him hit his best drive ever; straight, and long and unswerving, which is what we are expecting from Don from here on out. He also enjoyed making 4 bogies and is in the process of forgetting some holes that just plain got away. Drew learned that consentration and pre-ball striking rutines need to be observed right from the get-go. His 9 on the first hole was his tuition fee for that lesson. But, he regained his process for the most part by parring the 2nd, 4th, 8th and 9th where he drove to inside a foot from the green and about 12 feet from the cup. a couple of bogies and a lost ball on the 7th gave him low score honors over Dons 43 by one stroke.
Round 23: Christopher Morley Golf Course Tuesday, July 31, 2007 Highlights: More in the right direction. Lot of boggies and much more control than seen earlier in the season.
Round 22: Christopher Morley Golf Course Tuesday, July 24, 2007 Highlights: Now we are really rolling. Everyones game is picking up. Hank and Don scored the only pars of the day but there were a great number of nice things happening.
Round 21: Christopher Morley Golf Course Tuesday, July 10, 2007 Highlights: Welcome back to Hank, who had been recovering from his car accident. He had a few very nice shots during this inaugural round and we are sure he's starting to roll since he is now sporting a brand new hand pull cart. Don led the way with an all time low score for him on this course with a 37. He bogied 7 holes and parred the other two. Nice work Don. Ken also had his lowest score to date at Morley with a nice round of 45 that included two bogies, one par and one birdie on the fourth. He was one in one and sunk that put. Nice going Ken. Drew had three bogies, two pars on the 2nd and fourth and escaped with a 43. The round was somewhat interrupted by a rood twosome who tried to replay the 7th, 8th and 9th holes by driving on to the 7th while we were finishing the 6th hole. When approach by one of our group who pointed out that golf is a game of integrity and that by doing what they were doing they were cheating the county, everyone of us, by interrupting our game as they were, and cheating themselves because if they could cheat like this how much more so would they be cheating on their scores. They were implored to realize what they were doing and how wrong it was and they finally decided to leave as they should have in the first place.
Round 20: Christopher Morley Golf Course Tuesday, June 26, 2007 Highlights: This was a round of advancement for each of us. But first, we should note that we were joined again by Vito of Floral Park, who shot a wonderful round of 35 with a sparkling birdie and only one hole, the 6th, worse than bogie. He is over 70 years old but you would never guess it. He visits the driving range three times a week, plays golf twice a week and when ever he has a felling he needs help takes a lesson from a local pro. Ken hit 51, one of his best rounds to date, with a very nice round-ending par on the always challenging 9th hole. Don parred the 4th and the 9th and had two bogies to a total of 43. Drew parred the 1, 4, 8 and 9 with the one on the 9th coming via a nifty pitch and run from 20 plus feet away. His 40 total was a product of some very nice putting results and some several recovery shots after miss-hits that might otherwise have spelled disaster. Everyone parred the 9th lifting sprits across the board.

Round 9: Christopher Morley Golf Course Thursday, October 5, 2006 Highlights: We reshuffled the deck today at the last minute. Hank had canceled to hold his wife Elaine's “other hand” (his words) while she had shoulder surgery this morning. Mike took his place, but drove up announcing that Ken would not be playing today in order to be there for his father-in-law, who had fallen and was in the hospital. We wish both patients a speedy recovery. So it was a walk-in-the-park for Don, Mike and Drew. But, Don made it very special one by chipping in on the 4th for birdie; tweet tweet. He had 4 bogies to go with it, but was high enough on the other holes to yield the low score of the day honors to Drew. Mike was there with the occasional seasoned golf shot like his nice chip on the 8th, but he was tree-centric and playing the part of spectator by lifting his head (his observation) more than usual. It was Drew's 6 bogies and his par on the 8th that gave him the game in today's round. He is anticipating getting a new set of clubs and must be trying to squeeze all he can out of the ones he's been using for the last 26 years. The leaves on the ground were making finding balls sometimes almost impossible. Without the means to have a fore-caddie, we may opt to suspend play until the leaves return to the trees where they belong.
Round 8: Christopher Morley Golf Course Thursday, September 28, 2006 Highlights: Almost an entire set of duplicate golfers who looked just like our foursome showed up at Christopher Morley Golf Course and played in our stead, except for Don; he was himself hitting a 43 with pars on holes 4 and 8 and bogies on 3, 5 and 6. There were some moments of brilliance from Ken, Hank and Drew, but it was slogging struggle with lost balls and all sorts of mis-hits that made us talk about what a nice walk in the park we were having; but not golf. Drew did nearly ace the 8th with an 8-iron that left its mark inches from the cup, but he settled for a par. He bogied 3, 6 and 7 which kept him not too far off of Don's lead, but finished with a 46.
Round 8: Christopher Morley Golf Course Thursday, September 21, 2006 Highlights: Ken was back from Ireland but the layoff cost him momentum; though he started off with a bogie on the first and came back with a bogie on the , third, he was mostly triple bogie or worse a couple of times for the rest of the round. Th3re were isolated moments where he hit the ball soundly, but putting them together was not happening for him. Don, who has been playing well on the Eisenhower Blue, parred the second, but struggled on all but the forth which he bogied. Hank and Drew played even a 42 for the morning, which was Hank's best score of the season to date. Drew was two strokes of his personal best on the Morley course and hit the ball with some consistency showing the results of two recent rounds on the Eisenhower Blue.
Round 7: Christopher Morley Golf Course Thursday, September 7, 2006 Highlights: Don was able to put him temporary medical distraction completely behind him and stepped up to hit pars on holes 3, 6 and 8 and, overall, shot a 39, which averages out to be one above par for each of the nine holes, or bogie golf. Norman was nice enough to join us again while Ken was away in Ireland. He parred the 4th and worked on his iron play the rest of the round. It was a soggy course and the spongy turf, solid bunkers and slower than slow green took their toll on the rest of us. Hank sandwiched in a couple of bogies on the 4th and 5th before he got fully warmed up for his great finish on the 9th with a sparkling "come back" par; when he gets a par like that and on the last hole, you can bet, Hank is comin' back. A guy showed up who looked just like Drew, and exact duplicate, who played his round for him but he was nowhere near the golfer that the real Drew is. Oh sure, he had several nice shots, but he could not put it all together like Drew had been doing up until this point. We hope the real Drew is back next round. Note of Interest: Don came in describing some of the high points of a review of the Morley Golf Course when Drew informed the group that he had written that review only last week and posted at www.golflink.com and started quoting from his article in the way of a proof. Take a look at the Course Review describing the Morley Golf Course and see if you agree.
Round 6: Christopher Morley Golf Course Thursday, August 31, 2006 Highlights: Norm filled in for Mike who was filling in for Ken, who is on his way to Ireland for a vacation. Norm had joined, Don and Drew and one other friend, John, to form a foursome in the recent American Kidney Fund Golf Outing at the Hamlet Golf and Country Club. The course had a delayed opening and our opting to go for breakfast before playing delayed us further with a 45 minute wait behind those who came to sign up to play while we were at a local diner. In future, we will wait at the course. The round was one of adaptation and surprises. Hole-number one was under repair which took a good portion of it including the green out of play. Don was off his stride having recently had a medical procedure; his golf ball kept going right and we are still trying to figure out what caused that. Norman, who plays mostly the full length course, showed the way by mostly playing bogie, par and even birdie golf with nice 40 for the 9 holes. Hank found out that he needs seven holes to warm up, because as soon as he did, he parred the 8th and after driving the green on the 9th leaving him with a mid-length putt for an Eagle, he got close and then got his birdie 3. Nice going Hank. Drew had his moments with pars on the 5th, 7th and 9th holes. The score card for today's round has Drew's notes on where he hit and what club he used on each hole. There is something to playing a course and getting to know it and what clubs work where and under what conditions. It makes the game that much more interesting and seems to be what the pros do for a good reason, it works.
Round 5: Christopher Morley Golf Course Thursday, August 24, 2006 Highlights: Mike, filling in this round for Hank, who was in Canada, took 5 strokes of his previous round. Ken continues to improve taking 6 strokes off compared to his last round got another par; this time in the 9th. Don, back from playing on the big courses, shot another 42 in pretty much bogie golf fashion. Drew shot his personal best of 41 with pars on the 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 9th, where he chipped for Eagle but settled for par.
Round 4: Christopher Morley Golf Course Thursday, August 17, 2006 Highlights: Ken and Hank hit their personal bests. Mike substituted for Don and had a couple of bogies and a several nice shots that just need to be woven together to bring his stroke count down. Drew drove the green on the 9th and faced an Eagle Putt for the first time. He settled for birdie, which was his second of the morning.
Round 3: Christopher Morley Golf Course Tuesday, August 1, 2006 Highlights: Our group was a threesome today with the great threat of super-high heat in the 100's threatening to drive us off the course. We lucked out with the heat by starting a half hour earlier. Don parred the 1st and 7th and had 5 bogies for a nice round of 42. Ken hit is best score to date with a 48 making bogie on 3, 4, 6 and 8. Drew put two pars together on the 8th and 9th along with 3 bogies to catch Don at the end with his round of 42.
Round 2: Christopher Morley Golf Course Thursday, July 27, 2006 Highlights: Don parred the 2nd and 9th and had a bogie on the 3rd. Ken got par on the 8th, his first one according to him, and started to triangulate towards knowing where he hits and where he is aiming. Hank had bogie on the 3rd like it was meant to be. He also has some shots that went just right; some times too far right, but there is a future there. Drew had bogie on the 2nd, 5th, 6th and 8th with some isolated shots that looked like golf shots on some of the other holes too.
Round 1: Christopher Morley Golf Course Thursday, July 20, 2006 Highlights: Every one enjoyed our inagural round of golf together. Don had a swell round with 2 pars, on the 4th and the 9th and 5 bogies on five other holes. Drew had a par on the 6th and four bogies getting just nosed out by Don for overall score. Hank and Ken had a couple of bogies each and saw some good things happen as the round progressed.
